
Xiamen Hulishan Fortress was built during the emperor Guangxu period of Qing Dynasty on March 8, 1894, and completed on January 8, 1896. It covers the total area of over 70,000 square meters, and the castle area is 13,000 square meters, dividing into battle ground area, officers’ residen-
tial area, and back mountainous area. The construction of the fortress is half bunker and half city wall, combining the European style and Qing Dynasty style altogether.
Xiamen Hulishan Fortress, well preserved as “the biggest coastal cannon still existing”, won the award of Best Project among Great World Guinness.
In these two years, Hilishan Fortress spares no efforts to present its cultural attractions by developing two main features, the Krupp Cannon and the Demonstration of Qing Soldiers Operating Dutch Cannons. Moreover, there are more than thirty programs for tourists, including “Welcoming Guests Ceremony” performance, “Hand-in-hand Counter” program, Silicon Robots, 4D Cinema, Phantom Imaging Theater, Halls of Historical Materials on Sinking the Japanese Warship, the Submitted Memo-
rial Report Agreed by Emperor Guangxu, a Forest Made up by one Tree and so on.
All these dynamic fresh cultural tourist attractions not onlygrammaticallychange the Hilishan Fortress’s history of only being a fortress itself, but also enrich and upgrade the scenic product structure and cultural connotation, and make it become the domestic first-class and international renowned tourist resort. It receives more than 1.7 million tourists every year, becoming a window to sightsee and experience Chinese culture.
